I am in a rent to own situation, I carry my own insurance on the home, about a month ago I came home to find a pick up truck in the middle of my deck that was just finished two weeks before that, I had not even had time to get furniture on it yet. I could have just cried, all the hard work in the evenings after work and on the weekends all shifted and crooked. The truck also shifted my chimney over. I want the insurance company to pay for the repairs on the chimney too, the impact knocked items off my walls and kitchen counters, I am really surprised that the truck did not come through my kitchen.
The individuals car insurance wants to settle the claim for $4000, I have almost that in the deck in the treated lumber, it is a pretty big deck with a ramp leading up to it. It sits second story. I am not happy with this amount, so my question is, will my homeowners step in and make the car insurance company pay for the other damage to the home, chimney and such. They will be the ones insuring the damaged property so I would think that they would have some interest in making sure the repairs are done right. I am asking for any advice at all here, dealing with two different worlds of insurance is confusing me car insurance vs homeowners insurance. thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

Do you know if you save a whole lot by combining the two?
YES or atleast the company I'm with I save little over 100 on homeowners, and i think 20% on the cars, boat, 4wheeler, trailer etc..would be worth shopping around just to compare...make it your new years resolution if you're as busy as everyone this time of year, would be an added burden you don't need right now...I have been with the same company for years, have excellent coverage at a pretty low cost
did you check them for your auto? and remind them when you did that you have your HO with them? both policys should enjoy a 'companion policy' discount.Posted: Mon Dec 15, 2008 01:41 pm Post Subject: Glass Damage while transportation
On the similar grounds, I am too late, but for information, I had got glass windows damaged while transportaion, but not by any accident but since they were delicate. I would ask, could I have got any help while the home had insured? Since it was a short transportation, I had not insured the material, but damage was significant. Besides, could I have insurance while I had started construction my room through a local builder and not a reputed one due to cost factor.

Your homeowners would have covered it, sometimes we just assume that every thing will be okay until the worst happens.
One thing that I do notice is that my home owners insurance is one that has not increased in price over the years. Wish I could say the same about health and car insurance, LOL.

Wish that I could say the same. Mine rose almost a hundred dollars this year due to an incident here at my property with my brothers truck last year. I was told that I could raise my deductible to deter the increase and then found out later that I could not since my home was still considered a mobile home (even though on full foundation basement). They will not even try to look at my home as anything other than a mobile home which really annots me since it is deeded and does not have a title any longer.
Your comment though Good natured is very true...we do not relize things sometimes until the owrst happens. If something would happen here in the next couple years I problaly will be extremely glad that I just paid out the extra on my insurance policy and not increased the deductible. You know how quick damages can add up.

If those were damaged during transit, I doubt that would be covered by the homeowners plan. You really need to refer to the policy document to what know what exactly you are entitled for.
The homeowner insurance typically covers the structure and the content of the house. However, the mobile home insurance is different from the conventional home plans. Hence, it may offer some extra coverage which is otherwise not available in the HO plans.
