I had my 2006 chevy colorado stolen on dec. 23, 2007 from the backyard of my in-laws house. It was found 11 hours later in the marshes and it had water all in the cab and a water line that reached the top of the bed. The police said they had a string of thefts lately and it was possible that could be what happened. I had left it unlocked since it was a safe place(so i thought) and i always had my spare in the glove box since i had a history of locking my keys in. nobody knew this but me and my wife. i was told i would be contacted by an adjuster by jan 1. well i didnt hear from him till the 4th, then i was told i would be contacted by an investigator by the 4th. that didnt happen untill the 12th. on the 25th, they told me that they chose to do an EUO and i would be given a phone number for the attorney to set up my appt by the 28th. today is the 4th of february and i have not heard from the since. I had looked at getting a replacement vehicle the whole time and was told i couldnt get a letter stating they were taking over it untill after the investigation. well, on the 9th of jan i found a vehicle and the dealer called and they sent the letter. so on the 25th they said they wanted to go thru an attorney, even after i got a letter saying i had no interest in the vehicle anymore. I spoke to a military attorney today and they said i may want to look into suing the company. any suggestions or advice. Im also getting ready to go on deployment to afghanistan and when i leave i cant do anything.

I really don't understand this letter business...anyway i think what you should do right now is contact your states Dept of Ins. they all have websites and most allow complaints to be filed on line...this WILL get them moving I assure you!

I think tcope thought (and your post did sound like) you were getting no answer at all on the phone when you called them no voice mail, just no answer which didn't make sense...you've clarified that now...

Re: keys in the glove box...really won't make any difference ulitmately unless your policy calls for forced entry and most states don't allow this...good idea? no, but hey we all make mistakes....just your explaination for them being there wasn't a good one

Please contact your states DOI and let us know what you hear...also call them again, and keep hitting 'zero' until you get a person..eventually you will...(i hope)

Yup... it's been a rough week and I'm running on little sleep.

Sorry, was not thinking straight. I got that backwards in my head... most states don't allow 3rd parry Bad Faith claims, of course they allow 1st party ones.

I think USAA is looking into at least the possibility that the OP had something to do with the theft. Perhaps not dumped the vehicle personally. Same result in either case.

OP, you simply need to call back and speak to an operator. Ask for the adjusters supervisor and if they don't pick up. LM and ask for a return call w/in 24 hours. No call back means you call the next day and ask for the supervisors supervisor. This is going to yield quick results and when a person finally calls you back, they will be very upset that calls were not returned (people get fired at USAA for this).

I also recommend that you call USAA and file an internal verbal complaints. They have a special department for this. I'm not sure how to get there... I'd call and ask to speak to the VP of claims for that office. I'm betting that gets you there. They will internally review the file and take these calls _very_ seriously.

So both of these things and I'm betting you will see things getting done in a hurry.

i called the dept. of insurance yesterday and they have a form coming to me. They even said that yes, not being called back is a very good reason to have a complaint. i have called and when you hit the 0 button 4 times, it takes you to a general voice mail, which i do leave a msg on. but i will keep trying and try to get a supervisor.

Call the main number, 800-531-8222 for claims and don't press any buttons. When the operator picks up, just ask to speak to the adjuster's supervisor.

I.m sitting here reading these posts.Very interesting .Did anyone ever make sense out of him keeping keys in the glove box cause he locks them in a lot.Wouldn't you have to get inside then to get the spare from the glove box?Probably not that important ,just something that I read and stuck in my mind.

no poor OP couldn't even make sense of it....

your right, it doesnt make much sense. i used to have them in the magnetic box, then one day that fell off after some road bumps. then i tried keeping them in my bed under my bed mat, that didnt last long because i soon forgot about them and my wife had to remind me. i started keeping them in my glove box also because if someone at work needed to make a quick run somewhere, i told them take my truck. but thats about all i can say about this.

that's not part of your problem anyway I don't think, I know people (and have had claims) where extra keys are in the car...it was just the ''in case i lock myself out part'' that made people wonder.....i wouldn't worry about that aspect of it at all..

have you heard anymore on your claim?

no, i havent heard nothing else. i even called to speak to the supervisor and got yet another voice mail. im awaiting word from a lawyer to see if they will take this for a case or not. i found out friday that on friday the 15th, im going for field exercises and wont be back till the 5th of march, which i guarantee the company will call during that time, but of course, i wont be here. so im kinda wondering whats going to happen with that but i guess time will tell.
