The provisions prohibit :
-Providing meals to beneficiaries as part of marketing activities;
-Telemarketing, door-to-door solicitation, and other sales contacts made without a beneficiary's express invitation;
-Cross-selling of non-health care related products during any sales, marketing, or presentation for an MA plan or PDP;
-Conducting sales presentations or distributing and accepting plan applications in provider offices or other places where health care is delivered; and
-Conducting sales activities, distributing, or collecting applications at education events.
I read a more in-depth rule sheet yesterday, they have virtually made it illegal to say the word "Medicare Advantage" if you are a insurance agent and the individual has not said that they are interested in the product.
With these new rules, it would seem as if there are no options left to advertise for Medicare Advantage Policies. As I see it there are two. Either have so many clients that you are receiving referral after referral, or create a way to have them contact you, without breaking the "rules".
A lot of individuals have no idea what Medicare Part C is. When you go speak to them about it, sometimes that is the first time they have ever heard of a Medicare Advantage Policy.
MA's are extremely good for the individuals that never go to the hospital, they have an extremely low to no cost, since Medicare is paying their premiums for them. In most cases they will pay less even if they reach the maximum payout opposed the total premium they must pay each year for a supplement.
Agents that can set up a consistent mailer as of now are going to have an extreme upper-hand on the ones that wait; Because as I have said, its the only option available.
The company I am associated with is 180Leads.com. We are a Direct Marketing Firm, we create all types of effective marketing campaigns for all industries. We have mailing, telecommunication & research marketing campaigns for everyone from Mom & Pops Convenient Store to Fortune 500 Companies.
The elder market is ideal for mailing campaigns, with having more free time on their hands, going through all their mail and reading all the details. You need to be getting your name and the products you offer out to who needs them. Its a very simple process, with little effort on your part, just helping design the actual piece to mail.
It is always a great time to advertise, although the majority of our country is in a type of mind set indicating a "recession", everyone will always need insurance. During the "Great Depression" the insurance industry was one of the only industries that held up. Everyone will always feel a need to be secure, that's what insurance is, security.
As of today(Sept 18, 2008) insurance agents are literally not allowed to speak about Medicare Advantage products; Unless, the individual has directly showed interest into the product.
The only real option left for Medicare Advantage products is, sending out a mailer and waiting them to reply & say:
"I'm interested in __________(insert your product name)."
We work with OneSource (one of the largest MA providers in the country), they do not acquire their prospects from any other source besides 180Leads.
Testimonial from OneSource,
"We would never work with any company besides 180Leads. They provide the freshest and most accurate data in the industry, along with the best customer service I have ever dealt with. Around 97% of our apps are written off of the prospects 180Leads provides for us. Thank you 180Leads!"
F.S. OneSource

JakeF these types of draconian regulations come into effect because of jackassertrisk agents who slam the elderly during the Medicare Advantage open enrollment period.
