My homeowners insurance co is refusing to give me details about a claim against my policy. All they will tell me is that they are working in the best interest of myself. Now today i get a letter from the main office that they are not renewing my policy and i have 4 weeks to get new insurance.

Did they give a reason for not renewing your policy?

Also, I would call your agent and have them get more details about the claim. Your agent should be able to find out more for you.

What happened in the claim? That would help us in both of your questions...sounds to me like the claim against your policy is causing your non-renew...also adjusters cannot give out any personal information re: the other party...and they are working to protect you and your interest....if you'd like more help we need more information, what happened what state are you in etc..

So you still have 4 weeks..
Sometimes, opening up a bit truly helps the cause. Its your choice, whether you'd like to share with us more about your claim!
If you are apprehensive about disclosing the name of the carrier, then you might just state the cause of the claim & the state you reside in!

There's been a lot left unsaid here:
1. We have no idea what kind of claim we're talking about. It's highly unlikely that the OP has NO idea of what's going on here, so it would be prudent to tell the forum what originally started the claim. Are we talking about a first or third party environment here? In other words, was the claim initiated by and protecting the insured property or are we talking about a liability situation here?
2. Sound like the HO policy has just about run the full policy period, as you stated they are "nonrenewing" the policy and not cancelling the contract, and there is a substantial difference between the two.
3. All states have statutes that deal with insurer nonrenewals and cancellations, and they are very specific, so it would help if we knew what state you reside in.
4. Have there been any other claims or losses with this or any other insurer in the past 3-5 years? That will have a great deal of bearing on the status of the policy.

Give us some information, and we can help. No info? What can we do?

I love it when the OP poses a question, is looking for good, educated responses, and then NEVER CHECKS BACK TO SEE IF ANYTHING'S BEEN POSTED!!!

Perhaps the OP is too busy trying to find a HO carrier. :)

Hopefully you will find out why you are facing a non-renewal. This happened to me a last year and I just started searching on the internet. I found a company called NetQuotes that lead me to HomeInsurance.com. They were able to help me find a rate that that I needed for my home. I suggest searching the web to find your home insurance company.

Good luck, there are so many companies out there, don't let just one get you down...
