Filing a claim and then cancelling it will not put up any red flags? or raise your premium????

No it shouldn't however if it's a new policy this might...cwp'd or closed without payments shouldn't affect them...but this is a state, and company thing...too late anyway in this instance, because they have already filed a claim...but (atleast in my state) non-payment on a claim should not cause a rate up.

That is good to know, some times people panic when an accident initially happens and call the insurance company right away. I had rebar fly up, hit my car and take out my windshield. I had no clue what a windshield costs, I called my insurance company right away in panic, wondering if they would cover it, they wouldn't, it ended up being way lower than my deductable anyway and I ended up replacing it myself.
I think it is a reaction to the accident initially and then once the dust settles and the nerves calm, I seen things a little more clearly.

That makes perfect sense to put back your deductable, I never thought of that, would probably save a ton. I could easily do that here in a few months, even if I put half of it back, would not be too tough to come up with the rest. Great idea Lori, I may just do this.

If you put your premium savings in an account, until you reached the deductible difference then after that it would be all gravy

Ok...developments, if anyone is interested!
Adjuster estimated our water damage at $1982.85--we have a $1000 deductible. I'm calling our agent with some questions tomorrow or Thursday, but is this worth filing or will it raise our rates too much?
Another issue--I'm nervous because the carpet pad is still damp. The cleaners left and assure me with dehumidifiers and air movement the carpet/pad will be fine. I'm reading otherwise online. My Adjuster gave me three weeks to make a decision--if I wait to see if the carper/pad dries fine before I complete this claim, and it gets even moldier, can the estimate be updated or is it closed/off-limits?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated--you guys have been very helpful!!

certainly, the adjuster can just write a supplement for the pad, and whatever else that entails...I don't blame you I'd be a little cautious about that pad as well...hopefully they will get it all out...can you find out who the manufactor of the pad is? If so I would contact them (or maybe find them on line) and see what their opinion in re: drying out that pad, or what their recommendations are when they get this wet....thanks for the update, and please continue to do so...you'd be surprised, most people come here get their requested advise or questions answer and then we never find out what happend! it's so frustrating like throwing a book away after reading half of it!

most likely it is...i agree though he needs to keep an eye on the pad...OP I forgot to ask did you let the adjuster know that you were going to keep an eye on this and if it didn't clear up you'd be calling ?

Yeah, I talked about the pad with her, and that's why we're giving it a couple weeks before we confirm whether or not we want to go through with the claim. I may have a carpet installer or another cleaner come out and give me their opinion...or maybe even a mold inspector. I just hope there aren't any problems potentially having the carpet added into the estimate, too. Although that may raise my payment over a certain amount that they'll raise my premium--not sure how that works. Talkin' to my agent tomorrow to find out how it'll affect our premium.

Nope shouldn't be an issue at all...

most companys are 400-500 dollars so you are most likely already over that threshold (if you accept payment)
