Dead lock with insurance Adjuster

Quick summary, I'm stopped at a red light getting ready to go. An old lady slams into the back of my car even before I get a chance to get my foot off the break. It's the middle of the night, and she didn't even have on her lights. It's me and my daughter in the car, and I am pregnant. I go to the hospital, not in an ambulance, my husband drove me in his own car. Which I guess was a mistake.
We get to the hospital and go to triage. They can't find the baby's heart beat. They sit us for waiting room for 2 hours while we think our unborn child is dead. They finally bring us in and check for the heart beat and find it. They do some test, but do not do an ultra sound. And I never actually see a doctor just a Nurse Practitioner, which turns out is another mistake.
After the hospital I go to the orthopedic. He can't do anything because I'm pregnant. He gives me a neck brace recommend a chiropractor, which is another mistake or so I hear. I loose my job because I am part time 25 hours a week, and they only give you a week to be out for injury. I get appropriate documents from the chiropractor saying I can't work. I get fired anyway.
The damage to the car was $4,000, the frame was bent because she hit me so hard.
Now I calculated medical bills, lost work wages up to a month before I gave birth, because I would have been taking leave anyway for pregnancy, and 3 times medical bills for pain and suffering. I came up with a reasonable amount of $15,500. Not including the car repairs they paid that already, and gave me $700 for depreciation.
The insurance adjustor's first offer was a spit in my face of $4,000, which didn't even cover lost work. I laughed and hung up and called back a couple days. He offered me 8k which is still not satisfactory for me. I am willing to settle for $12,500, but he won't budge.
I contacted several lawyers and an insurance adjuster that is my friend. I submitted paper work to all of them and their estimates are 20-30k, but I call other lawyers I call say settle for the 8k. I don't want to sign up with a lawyer; I just want what is due to me. I don't want to price gouge them, I explained that to the adjustor, but he basically blows it off like of just go ahead and call a lawyer I don't care. I would call a lawyer and I still probably will have to hire one, but I just don't want to wait, I need the money as soon as possible to pay late bills due to the accident.
Why doesn't this adjuster just realize that if he settles with a reasonable amount with me, he could save his company money, instead of pushing me to a lawyer?
I actually called up a local lawyer and mentioned the name of the adjuster that is dealing with my case, and he knew the adjuster by name, and based on that refused to take my case because he knew he was a hard ass. So that leads to another question, can I get my adjuster changed? I also talked to the adjuster's supervisor as one last attempt to reason with them and no luck.
Does anyone know any good lawyers in Greensboro, NC? What about those commercials for like Lewis and Daggit? Please Help

He's right about that human nature I guess, shame we only remember the people that cause us trouble instead of the sweet hearts...

He's been at state farm for 10-15 years. He shrewed person when it comes to his job. I understand that's his job to save his company money.

Yeah, but it's not his job to be a jerk....if this guy is like this then you probably did do the right thing getting an attorney save on your stress level...

The lawyer still didn't settle yet. The adjuster went on a week vacation, he came back this week but he's not returing the lawyers calls. I'll up date when we settle

I know a few adjusters like this and I've acted this way on occasion but only to an attorney, never to an unrepresented person. 95% of the time I don't play hardball with attorneys as they are cooperative. Any adjuster knows that there are also some attorneys who do the same thing. It's just a style of negotiation. When I hear that most attorneys won't represent someone who has this adjuster because he's "difficult" (I guess that is a compliment from an injury attorney) then I kind of see the adjuster as doing a good job (his job, of course). Claims usually settle for less when the injured party is not represented. When they are represented then the attorney usually is the only person who gets paid more (as we see will probably be the case in this situation).

I'm not saying that any adjuster should be rude or even play hardball with unrepresented parties but I think it does have it's place. Unfortunately some adjusters have a "god" complex. Now those adjusters should just be shot as they don't have a clue about life (in the large scheme of things their job means very little).

Sometimes isn't it good to have an atty T-scope? My case is pretty complex and not having an atty scared the heck out of me once I seen that I was going to be left with a lifetime disability. I do agree there are plenty of times that an adjuster doeas have to play hard ball. Some attys proabaly have the same god complex you are speaking of and should also be shot.

Very few times have I had to harsh, and many times I have been thrilled to pieces when a difficult person says they are getting an attorney... By difficult I mean someone that truely doesn't understand what can be paid for and what cannot, but they THINK they know everything..and won't listen...those people, I welcome an atty rep letter from.

I agree whole heartedly, most atty, I have no trouble with at all in fact they are a breeze in most cases...(except the ones that just passed the bar  )

Some real complex cases I agree need an atty...the ones I hate to see get rep'd are the ones (injured party) that in the end actually end up with less than I would've settled it for after their atty takes his/her piece of the pie.

YES!!!!! I'd say whenever the injuries are severe enough that an average person does not have any idea what the settlement amount should be or at least as there is enough room for a higher settlement to pay the attorneys 33% fee. Especially when these cases make it much easier on the injured party.

As an adjuster I've had _very_ few adjusters become rude. It just does not happen. I'd say it's around .0001%.
