My husband fell in the house and is on short term disability. The company does not have long term and policy is to lay people off after 3 months if they do not come back to work.
His doctor says that for this type of injury it will take 4-6 months to heal. He will be laid off end of January while he is still on disability. Can he file for unemployment once he is off the disability? This is in the State of Colorado.

Did you or your husband have a word with the HR help desk? Please go through a forum topic that holds a similar discussion regarding filing for unemployment benefits while in a state of disability.

If he'd be laid off after 3 months, then it's obvious that he's not quitting out of his own free will. So, I don't think there should be any problem if he'd apply for unemployment benefits under such circumstances.

Anyone can apply, the question is: can he get approved? I don't know what CO state law is, but I'm guessing he should be able to.
Now we understand the importance of disability insurance. You know what? Only 8% of claims are for injuries, 92% of the time it's illness. Want to keep gambling with your finances? Check into individual coverage when he recovers.
