i took medical leave in 7/08 however my company closed my division in 4/09 and all of the offices in my area. However, due to my medical leave they could not lay me off they kept me on unpaid leave until my return but, when I was just released and upon return to work there are no offices or work for me and I am layed off. Unemployment denied me because they stated I had no wages in 18 months or prior quarter it had been 24 months since my leave began. Has anyone dealt with this and do I have a valid appeal? i feel I should be entitled to benefits also

The word ENTITLED is your Achilles' heel. Why should you be ENTITLED to a benefit that neither you nor your employer paid for?
You have no entitlement because you did not work. That it was due to a disability is neither here nor there. No tickee, no washee. Don't want to pay for life insurance, don't expect an insurance company to pay a death claim.
I've paid some $35,000 or $40,000 into Social Security and Medicare over the last 40 years. I think I should be entitled to a refund since they aren't going to provide me with the benefits they "promised" to me 40 years ago (there actually are no promises in SS/MC). But I don't run the system, I don't make the rules, I don't have any entitlement to that refund. Life is not fair. Isn't that a b----!
And you don't have anything to appeal after having been denied an unemployment benefit.
Start looking for employment -- join all the others who are either not qualified for UI or have exhausted their extended benefits that no one paid for either. You are ENTITLED to do that. No charge.
Sorry if this all sounds unsympathetic. It is.

Whenever you had applied for unemployment benefits, you should have known the conditions under which you get such benefits. It often happens that we depend on something without knowing it's true nature. Max has one good suggestion for you, so go through his reply carefully!
