I am on long term disability benefits. My doctor says I need to go for an operation in order to get better, but there’s no guarantee to that. So I don’t want to do that surgery right now.
My question is do I need to go for the surgery to collect the long term disability benefits?

Your insurance company can’t deny you your benefits, just for not going for a surgery. As you said that there’s no guarantee to the fact that you’ll be cured by the surgery, it makes it a valid point for not wanting to choose the risk of surgery.
As far as I feel, your insurer can’t stop paying you the disability benefits for this reason.

Sorry Jane, but how you feel does not change the terms of a contract. If the contract requires you to make a reasonable attempt to improve your health so you can go back to work, they could deny your benefits if you go against medical advice. Read your contract and consult a disability lawyer.

According to terms of policy it is stated that, medical benefits will be provided on following of instructions given by doctor, otherwise insurance company will deny your claim.

Medical benefits are not the same as disability income benefits. One puts money in the pockets of doctors, surgeons, and hospital employees, the other puts money in your own pocket.
