getting laid off while on temp. disability

I had Back surgery on Feb 14 and 16th and going to get surgery on June 4th on my back as well I am on temp. disability in NJ was told by my boss that they are going to lay me off can they do this, and what can I do?

Was your back injury work related? Have you returned to work on light duty? You leave too many questions unanswered.
