I have a question...my brother passed away back in October. Unfortunatly he was in Texas with his girlfriend (who we never met, not even at the funeral) at the time. He was 32 years old and a generally healthy guy...so when he died we all questioned if maybe the girlfriend did something to him to make his heart stop. Id like to find out if she had an insurence policy on him, she does work for an insurence agency. I cant affors to pay 75$ (heck I cant afford to pay anything going on a whim...but if I found out there WAS a policy, Im sure I could gather up enough money to pay for the details. So my question is this....can someone lead me to where I can search myself (for free) or would someone be willing to put in a little looking in for me out of the goodness of thier heart? PLease? I just stumbled upon this site, so I probably wont make it back....please email me....ashlee62982(at)yahoo(dot)com Thanks!!!

Well, why don't you forward your problem (regarding the insurance details of your brother) to the Texas DOI. You may email them at ConsumerProtection[at]tdi.state.tx.us
You may fax at 512-475-1771
I'd try to mail you at the email address, but also leavingt it over here since it might help the others going thru this thread (Or in case you choose to come back)

Truly sorry to hear about your brother!
Its unfortunate to lose a healthy youngman at such an early age, I'm sure you're at the right place to convey this case. This should come to great help to the community members in case they face a similar tragedy. Why don't you mail at the following address?
by mail at Texas Department of Insurance
Consumer Protection Program
P.O. Box 149091
Austin, TX 78714-9091
Wish you keep in touch & be a friend to all the community members!

There are 2 very powerful govt. bodies in Texas namely-
(a) TDI (Texas Deptt of insurance) & (b) the OPIC (the office of Public insurance counsel). These 2 bodies are open for any questions or concerns regarding insurance. Hope this helps you!

This post is so sad, I too am sorry to hear about your brother, I hope that what you suspect is not true, but people will do some unusual things for money. No matter what she would have gotten in a policy would not have been worth his life. did they do an autopsy? What if any were the findings? Did they do a toxicology report? I am just thinking that they should have done the works on a young man with this type of death, just makes sense to try and find out how this happened, especially if he was healthy. I wish you luck in finding the truth and send my condolences to you and your family. Losing a loved one under any circumstance is hard, but to have suspician is even worse.

So very sorry to hear of your brothers untimely death...unfortunately more than likely the DOI will be able to do absolutely nothing to assist you. I would recommend that you contact the medical examainer in the county your brother passed in, perhaps even the police, there has to be a cause of death, if there is anything suspicios the police would be brought in and find out about any life policies because of course, leading cause of murder is greed/money...That other than talking with the girl would be the only ways I know to find out...Did your brother have any children? If so they would be his heirs not you, not his girlfriend. However if she purchased a policy with her as beneficiary that's probably a lock. You say that you know she works for an insurance company. Call that companies home office or main number and 'innocently' ask about a policy, also if you have access to any of his 'papers' check book register etc. There is no clearing house that shows life policies, I'm sorry...Please let us know how your search progresses and if there is anything else we can do.
