This depends on the area some what, and on the vehicle an older vehicle wouldn't hurt as bad as a newer one..In my part of the world a salvage title or 'prior' salvage title can reduce a vehicles value anywhere from 25-45% ....the best way to find out is to call a couple of 'good' used car dealers and ask them, if you had this vehicle what would you sell it for with a salvaged title and with a clean one.

If you have a salvage title is there ever a chance of it ever becoming a good title again or is it always a salvage title?

There is such a thing as 'washing' a title meaning (it's illegal by the way) a car is run thru a few states some how and comes out clean...but supposedly there have been safe gaurds put in place to stop this practice...Once a salvage title always a salvage title, now it might get changed to ''former salvage title'' in some states, but that would still provide ample warning to a prospective buyer...

That does sound illegal but I am sure it happens, like with the flood vehicles and such. Hopefully places like car fax and other pages like that you can look up your car or potential care by vin number and get the correct information. Do you run into this very often?

computers have made it much harder, but it does happen still....no, don't see it often anymore, 15-20 years ago it was pretty common. :(

I bet, can not imagine what was going on when you had to actually track paperwork done hand and foot, I guess there are days that we can say, thank god for computers, LOL.

I bought my daughter a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am for $3000 with a salvage title. It absolutely runs great. I did have my doubts but the car has been wonderful.

Nothing wrong at all with some salvaged then rebuilt vehicles Gary, depends on the damage and the repair, as long as the purchaser understands that should that vehicle total is till be valued 25-50% less than if it did not have a salvage or prior salvaged title (in most states).
