Whose fault is this?

I need a clarification for an accident that i was involved in. I was travelling on US-101N in california from San diego to San jose. the car infront of me stopped suddenly and i came to full stop with out hitting the front car. the guy back of me came and hit my car from back. due to that impact i went and hit the front car. My question is, is that my fault in hitting the front car or the back guys fault?

If you were stopped at the time and pushed into the vehicle in front, the driver behind you would be at fault.

It should be as easy as Tcope stated. One important thing that will be investigated by your insurance company and the insurance company behind you is how many impacts did the first car feel. Not that this is rock solid, but if the first car claims they felt multiple or at least 2 rear impacts the rear insurance company could take it as you struck the first vehicle and then their driver struck you making you strike the first vehicle again.

It could really come down to what the first car states.

I agree and Dasfuk said exactly what I was going to they will take a statement from #1 vehicle and find out how many impacts they felt, if one...you are in the clear, if two....not so much... :(

ps (these types of accidents happen ALOT) oh, crap this is ironic I just this second got one! what are the odds?
