Hi all..I've recently come across a magazine which depicts that global warming could well be the cause of a lot of evacuations..leaving many of us home less. Someone told me that NFIP (National flood Insurance Program) could really help business owners like me along the coastlines (I am running a small inn though). I'd love to know if this program has got something to do with home insurance? If not what does this program actually cover? Also, I'd like to know the eligibility criteria to apply for this program?

Hi Purple,
NFIP is a real powerful program...but I don't think it would be of any help to your real assets within the home or the facilities outside the home. But all I know about NFIP is that it is helpful for the home owners who are based nearer to the coasts through covering certain smaller equipments that form a part of their daily lives. Lets wait and see what other information comes up! :)

The NFIP is a specially designed policy to provide coverage to the homeowners residing in the flood plains. It covers the building property upto the limit of $2,50,000 and the contents within upto the limit of $1,00,000. You can purchase both types of coverage upon your requirement.

Everyone lives in a flood plain. True...every home has a flood plain rating.
The rating of the flood plain depends on your location to a water source - and the likelyhood of that water source flooding.
The website explains the different flood plains:
