no they shouldn't !!! clearly no.
As long as person is paying the premiums regularly without any long gap surely insurer need to approve any valid claim.

Hi Ndm, welcome to ampminsure.
Now, to answer your question....well they might since you are not actually unemployed when you're on FMLA.
FMLA guaranteed job protection. Hence, you can actually return back to your job once the leave period is over. FMLA ensures unpaid leave that you can take for medical condition, child birth/care/adoption or to take care of a family member.
Now, things may take a different turn with situations and for that you might have to share more information with us.
Have you filled the papers for FMLA?

I’d second Jeremy’s view. To receive unemployment benefits you have to be
Unemployed
Actively seeking employment
Not fired from your previous job or have quitted from it either
Maybe Amit will be back to let you know how exactly you can receive both the benefits at the same time?

if a person is on FMLA, he/she is not unemployed. so insurer can't just cancel the benefits of the insurance policy with this unemployment reason.
If the premium is paid by the employer then also there should not be any reason for the refusal of the claim.
jeremy you are right, OP should further give us more information.

I'm even more confused, Amit. I don't think that the OP is worried about cancelation of coverage.

OP is not worried about the cancellation of the coverage that's true but he/she is more worried about refusal of claim.
OP said

So in either of the case it is not possible for the insurer just to deny the benefits of the insurance policy with this unemployment reason.
We are still waiting from OP for further information.
