Good morning and welcome...CALL THE COPS! Do you have comprehensive coverage on your auto policy? If so CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY NOW! As to finding it no, the cops generally are the ones that locate them.......

It is generally the police that will locate your vehicle. Normally this does not mean they go looking for it but they may release an advisory to loo for it with their patrol.

as for preventing it in the future you can get a car alarm, the club for you steering wheel and the club for your break/gas pedal. But all of these are just a deterent. There is no guaranteed way to prevent vehicle theft. Every method of preventing it has an accompying way to get around it. Oh there is also the gas shutoff switch and ignition kill switches both of which can be bypassed.

So what I guess I am saying is you can add deterents to your vehile but no real sure fire prevention mechanism.

Just make sure you file a police report and file a claim with your insurance including the police report.

May be...but these are the things that matter most when you're in trouble!

I agree. I use a combination of them. Of course I realised the other day that I could get in my car and disable my car alarm in less then 30 seconds(lost my alarm remote).

30 seconds is long enough to turn heads. One thing I'm guilty of though, is just tutting when someones alarm goes off.

Like Lori said, if your car gets stolen, you call the police right away, and give them the make, model, color, plate number, everything. Including dents and marks, items in the car and any quirks about it.

A handful of stolen cars just get stripped down and have the parts sold on the black market, which is why the police need to know, because if they track your car to a chop shop, that'll bust a lot of them at once.

That is 30 seconds for a nonprofessional. A car alarm going off for longer then 30 seconds barely turns anyones eyes anymore. But yes it is really important to have all that information. If you ahve had your engine replaced it is also help to have the serial number off of that if you know it. I actually just read up on some smoke canister thing that you can have attached to your car alarm so that when it goes off it fills the car with smoke, the idea being that the thief can't see what he's doing with all the smoke.

That's a really clever idea, and I'm sure a car thats pumping out tons of smoke would draw the attention of the fire brigade as well as the police. A really foul-smelling smoke would show them who's boss, I can picture the headlines.

POLICE LOOKING FOR MAN WHO SMELLS LIKE SEPTIC TANK

I wonder why I never seem to think of these things, or patent them. One thing I can do is expand on the idea in the craziest ways possible.[/b][/quote]

Its apparently as nontoxic smoke as it can be. It can't be like tear gas do to possible health issues and they don't want the car owner to get sued for a medical condition on someone breaking into their car. Or even if the owner themselves wind up having a medical issue related to the smoke if it was a irritant of some sort other than being just a vision obsfucation.

Yep kinda like that, but I would hate to see a die pack in your care. That would just suck for cleaning it up after words especially if it was a false alarm.
