Hi guys!!
I think we haven't touched upon a very important point regarding the discount health care plans....unlike the health insurance the discount plans are not governed by the state laws. That is there isn't a regulatory authority monitoring the activities of the discount plan providers. Hence, the probability of getting scammed are much higher with the discount plans companies.
Also, there is a chance that you may not receive the services that are promised in the health card.

I only sell health insurance myself. I personally would not buy discount health care plans at all.

What's my Maximum "Out Of Pocket" in a calendar year for myself and my family with discount health care plans like these? Unlimited with No Stop Loss.
Since there is No insurance aspect . . . Who is at Risk? The offering Company is not subject to any claims, they administer the membership billing, I.D. cards, commissions and maintain or contract with a Network of participating providers.
Seems like all the Risk is shifted to the Providers of the Health Care. The Doctors, Hospitals and other Providers are willing to accept 50% of their normal fee for service. The Providers DO NOT share in or receive any portion of the monthly membership dues, such as in a capitation plan. And the Providers are responsible for collecting 100% of a Discounted Fee from the patients, preferably UP FRONT at the time service is rendered. A Discounted Fee that normally 80 to 100 percent of would be paid by Health Insurance Companies.
WOW

If you are paying cash to see the doctor you do not need a discount card. All you do is ask them for a cash discount when seing your doctor and they will work with you.

There is also a sliding scale fee in some doctors offices. They offer a lower payment on alot of things like blood work, visits and stuff like physicals to those who do not have insurance. A doctor visit may be $75 but if you have no insurance some will only charge a little over half of that amount.

These plans are the biggest crock of shxt I have ever seen....98% of the time, the person buying one has no idea the implications if something were to happen to them.

You do not need a discount card to get a discount.

Another a good alternative is the community walk in clinics, they are becoming more and more popular. I carry good insurance, but it is often times it is really hard to get a quick appointment, when you are sick, so myself and others that I work with have been using the walk in clinic, it is quick and they provide quality care. Many people who don't have insurance go there also, I am not real sure what the charge is if you don't have insurance, but if you do you only pay your copay.
