Employers health insurance - a must for all???

I've always opted out of the health insurance plans that are been offered to me by my insurer.
This year, I've been informed that my employer's gonna sign up with a plan which is supposed to be a "must" for all of us.

Till now, I have been covered under my husband's policy, but according to my insurer this time I'd be left with no coverage if I don't accept their
coverage.
What do I do now? Can they really do such a thing? GodfreyGordon

NO..I don't think they've any authority to compel a policy cancellation for your hubby. However, if they're not nice...they could compel you to accept their latest offer. Just don't get scared if they contact your husband's employer.

No one can force you to sign up any policy unless it is made mandatory by the state laws. Your employer is simply trying to force it on you.

I guess the employer is simply trying to involve more people in order to achieve good rates. I don't think it would be a good option for all of us especially to those who already have insurance.

On the other hand, I've come across this gentleman who's about to get retired and has not been offered the same insurance.

Check out if the premiums are gonnabe met by your company.
Also, please go through the policy benefits carefully and check if they're really good for you. If it's gonna save you some money then I don't see any harm in going for it.

They cannot make you take their insurance as long as you have a credible waiver.

Your husband's insurance can make you take coverage if it is offered by your employer. But I have never heard of your own employer's carrier making you take coverage.

What state are you in. I think you must check your state laws. From what I heard Hawaii has a provision for mandatory employer provided health insurance.

Make sure it's paid by your company. If it is, they'd force you to go for this one. In this case, this insurance would be your primary one and the one with your husband would be your secondary one.

Also...there are "opt out" periods, although they have passed.

It's true that no employer should lay rules depending on the employees' religion, race or gender. But, at the same time we must remember that it's absolutely legal for them to offer certain benefits to a particular group of employees if they feel it's required. Likewise, if they're offering this insurance as "mandatory" to a few groups of employees then I guess it's legal.
