Depends on the state. What state?

Hi dpadberg..

Yes..it's important for us to know which state you're from. I'd also be interested to know the reason of your inquiring about this.

Have you applied for Medicaid recently?

Did you transfer assets within the last 36 months?

It also depends on the situation. For example, if you have become recently disabled...some states have special Medicaid programs that you would be eligible for based more on income and less on assets. There are exclusions to assets, but these also depend on your state. Some exclsuions could include a vehicle and a primary residence.

Another thing to consider is other people residing in your household. Medicaid becomes very suspicious if you have RVs and Motorcycles and 4 Wheelers all over the place, but have them in someone else's name. Just make sure you're completely honest when dealing with any forms you fill out!

I thought all states adopted the federal 5 year transfer of assets.

Assuming the applicant returns home at a certain point in time, does medicad pay for in home care on an ongoing basis? Also are any assets specifically cash in a bank account forced to be used before Medicad pays.
if so how does person pay for their living expenses if that money is taken
Thanks
