A lot of people have lost their organs say eye, in severe accidents and thus ruined their future. Its not that only health care is enough for them. Particularly if the person is a prime earning member it would be a sad story. Even, it takes a long time to recover with a burdon of expenses. Are those hidden expenses a part of cover under medical insurance? Does they add on cost or need special insurance?

Health insurance usually only covers that... health. To address loss wages a person would need short term and long term disability.

some insurance companies in life insurance cover the financial losses due to loss of limbs, or permanent disability. but do charge some extra cost & it is available as an optional rider. Special mention of this term is also available in the policy docs.

Your health insuance more than likely will not cover that. If you are interested in that type of coverage you would need to purchase an accidental death & dismemberment policy and/or a long term disability policy. The AD&D policy will pay a cash benefit and the long term disability will replace a percentage of your income lost depending on the severity of your disability.
I highly recommend having a long term disability insurance plan if you are the only income earner for your family. It is just irresponsible to not have one.

yes!! its a fact indeed. If one does not have a good insurance cover when he is the only earning member then it is really an irresponsible behavior.
I must appreciate your pitching Mr.simplyinsureme. Nice contribution.

Wonderful! Does that policy is a combination of health & disability or is a separate one?

Vijay, the long term disability insurance would cover the income loss of the insured due to disability. It, however, wouldn't cover the medical and nursing-home expenses.
The LTD plans cover the income only partially. But its still advised to purchase this plan in order to protect the family in case of disability of the bread winner.

First of, the OP must understand that long term disability and long term care insurance are two completely different policies, catering to completely different needs.
The long term care plan would pay for the nursing home care, day care and assisted living expenses.
