I make home repairs and I can repair the damage with new material for $1100. If I had hired another professional to do the work, it would have cost me $5000. If I submit pictures of the before and after can I recover the depreciation based on my own work?

I live in Texas if that matters, and my Insurance Co is based in Texas.

I've heard that some carriers would only compensate you after they've gone through the repair bills. Some other carriers would only reimburse you if you'd choose to hire a professional who belongs to their own network.
