We had a small fire in the kitchen when the nanny was incharge of the babies and started cook dinner for the kids (my husband and myself were not at home at the time) . Can the insurance use this as an excuse not to pay us?

No, it's covered. I think in some cases the policy even considers the nanny an "insured".

If the fire was accidental and involve no negligence of the nanny, the homeowner insurance would likely to cover the damages. You may file the claim with the insurance company and see what they have to say in this regard.

Even if the nanny set the fire on purpose (which I highly doubt), the policy should still provide coverage. It's just in that case they could seek recovery. That is, the policy holder did not set the fire on purpose. Its the same as if I went to the owners home and set it on fire. The policy is not going to exclude coverage for that.

Hi Liat, As stated above im in agreement your house insurance should cover this with no problem as it was an accident.

what i think here is.......If the fire occurred due to the carelessness of the nanny then ya they might not consider but for an accident it will be covered..

so all u've to do is prove tht it was accidental.. which shudn b difficult in ur case.
