Recovered Stolen goods

by hailhailpmc » Tue Apr 14, 2009 07:54 pm

My property was burgled just before Christmas. I made an insurance claim and the insurer replaced my items (Or replaced what they could and paid for everything the couldn't replace) Very happy with hem really!!!

Now the Police have recovered my TV from some jaggy gits house. Although the Insurance firm has since replaced my TV I'm not overly the bothered about my old TV, but I would make good TV for my chill out room (I could get rid of the brick I have at present). What’s the chance of the Insurance firm writing this off? I know it cheeky but it’s no use to them. Is it? Should I contact them and ask if I can have it back? I've been with them for years, would mentioning thinking of going elsewhere make any diff?

Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.

Legally they are entitled to the TV. If they want it is a different matter. You can always ask them if you can keep it. Or, if it's worth it to you, make them a super low offer to buy the TV from them. I handle my own recovery and I can tell you I'd probably welcome an offer just so I did not need to hassle with it. But many carriers are set up to handle such items and may want it. I'd say if it were a CRT TV that they would let you keep it or make a very low bid. If it's an LCD, that is another matter.

I'm not sure I understood the last part of your post but if your thinking telling them that they need to let you keep it or your going to change carriers... well if you told me that, I'd offer to look up other carrier phone numbers to help you leave.

Hi hailhailpmc,

Welcome to forum.

What i observe from your post that your are satisfied insurance customer. Really you have got nice service from insurance company. So, What i believe that you should promptly refer this case to your insurance company as a matter of courtesy.Because they have treated you in a professional manner.

As tcope said they owe the T.V. legally so it is for very sure that you should inform them and morally also its your responsibility.

I appreciate your honesty that you have put this on forum and thus asked advice.

Since the claim has been paid off, legally the insurer has become the owner of the recovered items. You had reported loss to them and they have made you whole. Therefore, you no longer possess the ownership over the recovered items. Unless you are too passionate over your possessions I’d suggest you not to take the matter further.
