Are there any insurance companies that will cover a senior 3-wheel scooter for theft? Also, if the scooter is taken on the sidewalk, is insurance for injury to another person recommended? How do we locate these companies?

Our HO policy will cover medical supplies...including wheelchairs. This may fall into that category.
Excellent question...I need to call about this one.

Apart from the homeowners policy ( you need to find out whether the carrier will at all cover it or not) you may also check out with the medicare policy.
The Medicare covers medical equipments, such as wheelchairs, both manually operated and electronic.
The homeowners policy may cover the equipment only upto a certain limit, which may or may not cover it entire cost, hence, you should also seek for a floater policy to cover it upto its worth.

I think your HO policy will handle the theft...I'm more concerned about whether or not it will cover you for any liabilty...say you knock down a pedestrian...not sure if it would meet the definition of land motor vehicle in your policy thus excluding it...call your agent, get it from them in writing if they say your HO policy covers you for liability...

I was thinking the same thing as Lori. You should have the agent explain the policy wording re the liability aspect.
Most HO policies would cover theft of the scooter.
