The cost of insurance is generally high for young drivers. As because of the risks involved with them. Here are some tips that may help

to reduce the costs:

1.Look for the insurance companies that provide fine value for young drivers.
2.You can go for advanced driving test to improve your skill levels.
3.Stay away from new cars.
4.Keep yourself within restricted mileage.
5.Mention your smoking status if you are non-smoker.
6.Attach safety features like, anti-lock brakes, air bags etc.

All of the above ways are good. You may want to also ask the agents that are quoting you if they are using an insurance credit score. Some companies charge up to 54% more for customers that have a poor insurance credit score. It happens that young people don't score well. There are a lot of factors in an insurance score that negatively affect young people such as the overall length of your credit history.

You can get a copy of your credit report with an insurance score from Choicepoint. There are other companies that provide these scores to insurance companies but none that will sell them to consumers. It may not be the actual score that is being used but it will give you a good idea of where you stand.
