Is it possible to get an insurance license if you have a felony? A friend of mine has a felony for child abuse and neglect and she is worried that she won't be able to get a insurance license. Does anyone know if this will prevent her from obtaining that?

Because your friend will be licensed to provide coverage for other’s people’s assets, regulatory officials are cautious when issuing a license to someone that has committed a crime, particularly a felony. However, I have seen some departments work on a one-on-one basis with individuals and look at the length of time it has been since the felony was committed, what has the applicant done with their lives recently, is the applicant able to provide any letters of recommendation, and was the felony in direct relation to any type of theft.
I would highly recommend your friend contact the Department of Insurance in her state and talk to someone in licensing. They should be able to provide her with the specific criteria for that state.
