Work from home companies

Hello all,

I'm a licensed agent and I'm interested in working from home selling auto and homeowners insurance. Does anyone know of any companies that pay
agents to sell these types of insurance from home?

Thanks,
Joe

This will never work for you.

Working from home is difficult for a lot of reasons.

I do it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't a veteran agent.

You also have to have a certain level of maturity and discipline.

The ability to work hard and consistently without supervision kills agent careers. The temptation to do something besides work is so much greater when you work at home.

Some people are disciplined enough to work on their own in their 20s. I wasn't. I had to suffer through some hard times to develop the ability to work hard on long term projects.

If you have enough experience as an agent and the discipline, go for it. There are a lot of benefits to working from home.

The time I used to spend commuting, I can invest in something productive.

I can take care of my son when he is sick and can't go to school.

I have fewer dry cleaning bills.

I can watch TV or play ball when I want to, so long as I limit those and other non-productive activities.

There are some challenges that are associated with being an agent. Also, I guess an experienced agent has his own book of business. He has all the knowledge that one needs to have for up-selling too.

Find a mentor! Work with an experienced agent for a couple of years and then you can do it from home. The Insurance business has a 2 year learning curve, if you wanna do it right. There are 25 crooks to every honest agent, so be careful in choosing a Mentor. The best of luck to you sir, I have been in the business for 5 years and I still drive to the office to separate work from home.

Hi Joe,

I worked from home when I first started my agency. I was able to get most of the contracts I was interested in. Some companies will give you some push back. Farmers wouldn't allow me to get a contract unless I got a brick and mortar location.

You should make a list of all the companies you're interested in getting a contract with, call them up and explain your goals and desires of becoming a great agent. Some will give you the contract and some won't. It never hurts to try.

Hope this helps.

I have several companies that allow me to sell P&C products at home. The best known of those is Progressive, but there smaller companies that are good who also allow me to sell from home.
I agree with Alston about needing self-discipline, but at least from my perspective on working from home, the pros outweigh the cons.
