new to insurance

Hi everyone,
I live in a small town in NY and have my Life and Health license. Now what do I do?
I thought I wanted to be an independent agent, but I'm finding it challenging. Which insurance companies I should try to sign up with? Which area of insurance I should focus on selling? Should I get a broker? How should I find leads? I'm also nervous about how inexperienced I am.
I might be better off being a captive agent, at least to start, but I don't know where to go with that either. There are only small, individually owned companies around here. I have an offer from Bankers of Conseco about an hour away, but I've heard some negative stuff about them.
Anyways, I'm sorry this is so long. I really want to succeed and don't mind hard work, I'm just not sure where to start. Any advice or direction you can offer would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

You need an IMO if you want to be an Independent Agent. Personally being an Independent Agent is the way to go. My IMO has been very helpful to me since I have went Independent. If you are interested I get you his contact information. There is nothing in it for me, so it really doesn't matter either way.
