I want to open a web based insurance site. What do I need to begin? I already have my license to start. I am presently selling Health insurance under a brokerage but I want to sell it on my own. I know it will be difficult but I do not know if I have to be under a broker or get my broker license. Can someone please help me out? Google only knows but so much. :?

What state are you in? Your license only allows you to transact insurance in that state. Your website will be visible to people around the world. You have to include a disclaimer that you are only soliciting insurance in the state where you are licensed.
Now, here comes the good part. Don't expect to succeed. Internet insurance sales of health insurance is almost nil. It's too complex, and the application process in most states requires that you be present when the application is taken. Kind of tough to do that over the Internet. Not impossible, but tough.
Some insurance companies require you to use an approved template for your website. So you need to know those requirements as well.
You don't have to be a "broker". In CA, for example, there are no "brokers" of health insurance. We are all licensed as Accident & Health Agents. And you don't have to work in an agency.
Simply getting out into public and talking to people is the best way to market insurance -- life or health. Things are going to get very confused this year and next as Obamacare comes into full effect on 1-1-2014. Prepare for it by staying informed.

I agree. Choosing the right health insurance is a complex and difficult task. And if it's done online, then it's going to be all the more confusing. Setting up of consumer- friendly exchanges are not going to be as easy as Obamacare assumes.
You can try selling life or property policies though.
