I was just checking with a few carriers and found that I can check and even purchase policies through their interactive online systems. So I was just wondering if insurance agents really necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.

The answer is: Depends! It depends on the situation you are in, how efficient you are in gathering information and making a wise decision by assessing all the information. I mean I like to repair the electrical faults that occur within my household. Just apart from this, I can do many things on my own and really feel good about it. However, I still call a professional to resolve critical issues that I’m not good at and this way, avoid putting my family at risk. You just save nothing if you purchase a policy without an agent. Moreover, there is no state law that offers you any discount for doing it on your own.
An insurance agent is someone who understands the industry far better than you do. He/she can help you avoid making mistakes.

No, of course not. Neither are lawyers, doctors or accountants. They are, however, good to have around when you realize you have no idea what you're doing and are in desperate need of help.
