I've been offered a job as an insurance agent in Indiana contingent upon obtaining a license. They conducted a background check prior to this and it cleared just fine. I was charged with theft which was lowered to an unauthorized use of property conviction. Later, I had that record expunged/sealed. Will this propose an issue when it comes to my state licensing application? As far as the court papers say, I'm legally allowed to state that I was never charged/convicted of the crime ever. Passing the company background check makes me feel comfortable, but I'm starting to become concerned. I take my state exam tomorrow.

You need to read the law more closely. You do not have to disclose your conviction to a PRIVATE employer, but MUST disclose on request to any government entity you are applying to for employment or licensing. All insurance license applications ask the question: HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CONVICTED OF A CRIME? Your answer must be YES.Add your comment
