I personally started with the circle of influence that i have. I started building my network on my family. All those relatives that have there own stable jobs. I started it out from the people that cannot say no to me lol. Then i go with my friends, past classmates, and other people who are close to me aside from my family. After saturating all of them, ill go out of my circle of influence and ask for referrals from them. These are the people that are referred by all the people in my circle of influence. And start saturating that market.

When i comes to places, there is what we call 3-foot rule. This simply means that a person with a distance 3 feet from you can be your network or your prospect. It can be that you are seating on the restaurant or just standing on the street, the person that is near you can be a possible network. This technique needs a lot of guts. But for the fact that you are an insurance agent, this characteristic is inside of you already. You may not directly sell to that person. For the fact that insurance agents don't really sell, they help people in their financial problems. A small conversation can open a door for a great opportunity to make him or her a part of your network. "The way to succeed starts when you take that first step... Am i saying this right??" lol

Yes these are all good ideas but I think I am asking more along the lines of where you can find grous to network with people. Maybe websites that have worked for people. For example I started a networking group in my county for women. I already have 17 members and we have not even had our first meeting it is next week...however already the newspaper contacted me and wants to do a story on it! How exciting right...So I am ask if there are other ways like this to get in front of people with out putting out alot of money? Or are there any good websites? If you would like to see the group I started here is the link....feel free to use the idea as long as you are not in my area!! LOL http://workwmn.meetup.com/226

Have you tried Yahoo Groups?

The site is very good. So this is what you mean, some sites that can be a good place to meet other people. You can take the advice of one of our friends here, Andy. Yahoo groups can be one good site that you can use in this networking stuff. And why don't you try myspace.com. This is more on making friends online but we consider this as a social network. I think this is one of the most popular social networking sites online. And you can also checkout squidoo.com. But meetup.com is also a good site though. Thanks for sharing this. I haven't seen this site until now... lol

Joven, I agree with you. Myspace and Squidoo are also pretty good options as social networking sites.
How about Orkut, have you guys tried it?

I think if you want to know a good social networking site then I will suggest "mybloglog". It is quite famous this days with bloggers. But I think this site can also develop something like this and I am sure that this place can also be used up for networking in the days to come.

Thanks.

Hi Simon,
Welcome to the forums. Please take some time to introduce yourself to the community.
Your suggestion looks nice to me but we would need to think about it more to make it happen. In the meantime, it would come in handy if you could share some more details on it. Please use the community innovations thread to share any more suggestions that you might have. :)
Regards,
Lakemen

Yes I have used myspace and yahoo groups...but I have not really gotten the response that I wanted from it. In my opinion there are alot of very young people on Myspace that are not necessiarily looking to network with people. I have gotten a couple of people but not really what I am looking for. Yahoo groups I did look into...a little maybe I should look again.

I do have my meet up on Thursday I think that that should work out pretty well. I will let you all know when it is over. I also have another friend in that we are starting to network and he has invited me to one of his groups so I think that will also be a great place to meet new people.

hello,

for those who are new, we all welcome you to the community. thanks for the confirmation Andy. And i checked out on https://www.orkut.com and it is one good site... thanks for sharing it.

orkut is an online community designed to help people connect, build relationships and create engaging communities around common interests.

This is orkut is all about. I think this can be a good site to build connections. I have also seen one site and is working like squidoo. You can check out http://hubpages.com/. And if you have your adsense account, you can put in their for you to earn... :)

Well Orkut is certainly a great place to share and enhance your knowledge but I really recommend blogspot by google as this is a place which is becoming popular day by day and it also promotes you to add Google Adsense which can generate money each time you discuss in your blog ... However I am really glad to join this platform as I find it more interactive in termss of discussions
