captive or independent agent how can i find out before going on the interview
Have a doubt as to whether you're gonnabe interviewed or if it is you whos gonna take on a guy!
Assuming you're gonnabe interviewed, I feel the best way to find this out would be carrying on a small online research regarding the strength areas of the particular organization that you're gonnabe interviewed for.
If any advertisement or website is focusing more towards the services of a carrier across the globe, then it proves that they have already found or established large databases through their connectivity of agents. These organizations would not be looking for independent agents unless there is a gap to be covered under a particular stretch of time.
On the other hand, you see how important it becomes for the newbees (carriers) to seek large & tested databases which they might only avail through well-connected independent agents (who have already established their names upon a specific insurance product). These newbees are definitely gonna pay you lots in return for your invaluable network that they're gonna access.
I've known these prospective databases to have been designed out of specific economic consumer segments & hence they look out for such independent agents who have a good understanding & network with respect to that particular segment which is their need of the hour.
So I wish you all the best for your interview! Pleader09

Well, all having said, I have reasons to believe that if you're going for a job that has been advertised over the internet or through a newspaper or magazine then its probably going to be regarding a 'Captive profile'. Independent agents are mostly recruited through references from senior personnel within an organization or a shared channel.
