I will be taking my state exam for LAH in February. What exactly are the next steps for a new agent after obtaining a License. I know I want to be an independent agent. I also will be working from home. I live in Ct.
Any suggestions will help.

Hey, after passing the exam you need to obtain the license to start doing business, and for that, you need to find a company to back you during the process.

Hi Kelly, though I don't want to discourage you but a new agent may find it difficult to set his foot in the business. Not many insurance firms will be interested in starting a business with an agent with no established line of business. And also you need the proper training to begin with, which you can obtain from the agency you are associated with. You can receive all these services if you start the career as a captive agent. You can avail their infrastructure along with their data base. With due course you can always change your course to become an independent one.

Well, its just my two penny. There are some seasoned agents around this community. They will surely add their own opinion too.

I wish you all the luck for your exam. Hope you pass with flying colors and have an amazing career ahead.

There are some companies who'll work with an independent agent, like- ALFAC, Met Life and so forth; whereas there are some others who'll not accept an independent agent. Therefore, first you need to search for those and then should apply to their offices for the approval to sell their policies.

You can also visit the other independent agents operating in your area. They may help you in understanding the market and its nature. Though they are your competitors but their advices may help you in the long-run.

Hope the inputs will work for you. Best of luck :)

Hey Kelly, good luck on your test. I wish you the very best and hope you find much success in the insurance business.

If you want some advice from one of the 4 best-known Life Insurance Fraud Investigators in the country, it would be to stay far, far away from Primerica and American Income Life. There is nothing but pain awaiting you there.
