Farmers Insurance Good or Bad?

Does anyone have any experience working for or with Farmers Insurance. I ran across some anti-Farmer's websites devoted to exposing negative experiences that senior agents were having when trying to retire. There are more of these websites depicting the Farmers insurance frauds, but may be we can continue with it elsewhere. Oh, and anyone reporting good experiences, could you talk about there training program a little?

Thanks

Can't say much about Farmers and their retirement issues but I did interview with them and have a pretty good insights on their hiring practices and job experiences. This is only on their claims side, not agent side, which I think is what you are looking for.

Some has said the following within this site:

The Farmers Insurance Group offers an auto insurance discount called an Alternative Fuel Discount for all major types of coverage including Collision, Comprehensive and more.

It can save you up to 10% and covers vehicles which are gas-electric hybrids, electric only, natural gas only, ethanol only, methanol only and propane only.

They were the first group to do so and it's available in every state except a handful (FL, WV, SC, NJ, CT, MA and RI) according to their website at:

Don't forget OP, there are negative websites about EVERYTHING, you'd be better served to actually drop in on a farmers agent or two and have a nice converstaion with them...I seriously doubt any would mind...(most agents like to talk! :P   )

The mentioned website contains a _lot_ of incorrect information. Also, the site owner edits posts with no mention of this being done. I've posted information, agreeing with certain things and pointing out the errors on other and my posts have been edited to remove all but the negative comments. If you noticed, Farmers sent the owner of the site a Cease and Desist letter and then owner claimed Farmers was trying to quash is right to free speech (again, the owner removes/edits posts that he does not agree with...hmmmm).

tcope's latest post should tell you how reliable that particular web site is, huh? Like I said anyone can create a website, so you'd be best served by talking with some agents I think anyway.

Farmers will be good to you if you are productive. If you are lazy, they will attempt to recover their investment. Actually, not a bad idea.

I had a great experience interviewing at my local district office! They had a lot of good information to provide me about what to expect and the obvious hard work pays off. I am a business major with two business degrees and I understand what it takes to run a private business and Farmers is setting you up to succeed. Why else would they invest so much time and effort into new agents? I am going to call up a couple Farmers agents in my area to ask them about their experience and most likely I will sign the contract to work with Farmers.

I guess you're trying to run a captive agency. But it would have been great if you could share your interview experiences (at the district office). Even a couple of views might help a lot of aspiring agents at our forums.

Farmers Insurance is a great company to represent. I have been an agent for 9 yrs. I have no complaints about claims, service, or company being unfair. Retirement is what you put into it. If you don't save, you won't have anything when you retire. As an agent with Farmers, you are a self-employed individual. As with any business you own, you are the owner and you run your business. You get what you put into it. Hard work pays off at whatever you do. Farmers Insurance, as with any company, there will be changes. Just be open minded, work with what you have and stay positive. I do not feel 9 yrs have past and I enjoy the business. Helping others.
