I plan to make a career change, I have decided I want to sale insurance for a living. I have some sales experience but I have never sold insurance before. I am considering starting my career with Aflac, but I would like to get some feedback regarding Aflac as my first option. I have been told that I should look into other insurance companies, I have gone to the state farm and Allstate websites but it seems that they are only looking for people that want to open an office. Any feedback, especially from experienced agents, will be greatly appreciated.

I was in an aflac office the first quarter of this year... all paper work filled out and appliacation fee as well as fingerprinting performed... problem... manager screwed up application input and to date.. I have not received "writer number" from the state of GA .. I have to say the company training (which the district manager has nothing to do with) is excellent. the hands on training is the worst training I have ever encountered. Having been a sales trainer myself.. when I scheduled a training session... I did not cancel .. this was done by manager so many times till.. well .. it just makes the fire go out. I know from what I speak.. I would never recommend NE GA district hope you find a better district surely there must be one somewhere in GA

Just met with a recruiter of AFLAC on Friday this week. This sounds like a very interesting prospect. I do appreciate the candid advice from so many on this blog. This does seem like if you are willing to work hard and network the income potential is wonderful. :P

You have to pass your exam first. After that, you have to wait until your license is issued. After that you have to start setting appointments and closing the sales. How quickly can you do that? The checks may come in two or three weeks after the sale.

To all you guys and gals pondering the Aflac career dilemma: first thing to realize is that selling insurance is different than any other form of selling. When you sell insurance YOU'RE NOT SELLING A TANGILBLE PRODUCT. Your customers cannot touch, feel, smell, taste what you're selling (it's pretty easy to work retail and stand behind a counter and sell jewelry or perfumes, etc). So how do you sell something that's not tangible? You really have to understand that this is what you are getting into with insurance sales and if this does not fit your personality profile, don't waste your time........I mean that. You have to be comfortable selling a promise and selling yourself. The promise is that Aflac is the best in the industry with many credits to their name from Forbes and Fortune magazines to individual customer claims. What will get you through the initial door to set an appointment is your personality and how you present yourself (as you walk inot a business, the person behind the desk could care LESS what you are there for, he/she just knows that you are ineterupting his/her day). It's up to you to make your presence a happy one and you have 3 seconds to get through to him/her. Again, if this type of activity does not fit your personality profile, don't get involved. Of course, not all your business will be cold calling, but when you first get started you'll want to cold call as much as possible and gain contacts because in your second, third and consecutive years you'll be busy servicing those accounts. Aflac is the most ethical, and overall the best company to work for if you really want to help others, succeed at a lucrative career for yourself, earn residual income and be financially free. Aflac does not hold you captive. You are able to work for other insurance companies while doing Aflac at the same time, I'm currently trying to get a job with Liberty Mutual to support my Aflac career.

Sounds like your AFLAC "career" is lacking something..
