I signed up with an American Family Insurance agent in 2007. He disappeared three months later leaving unpaid rent an other bills. I moved out of the country and just recently moved back.
When I applied for auto insurance I found this agent had supposedly paid out for an accident I never had, which was supposed to be my fault. There's no police report on this accident and I never received any paperwork or info from American Family Insurance they had paid out on this claim.
Thanks to this ding on my record, auto insurance quotes are nearly double what I've been quoted before they check my record. How do I get this off my record? I've contacted AFI several times with no response.
Thanks.

First, I'd file a complaint with your state's Dept of insurance.

Also you might look into contacting choicepoint to dispute the CLUE report that is showing the accident.

First off, I seriously doubt your 'agent' paid a liability claim period...if it was paid it would've been paid by the claims dept.
Secondly, what happened in the accident? Maybe you were at fault..it sounds like you say there was no claim/accident at all..then there was no police report..so which was it? did you have an accident at all?
Thirdly, no way they paid a liability claim without making multiple contact attempts to you.
Did you call the claims dept for American family? When did this accident (supposedly) occur?

LORI...........you can STILL have an accident and not have a Police Report (if you didn't report it), right? I don't think it would matter if the Agent left the company or not. It's the COMPANY that deals with the claim.
