I am getting my license to operate as an independant producer in the state of KS. I feel I have strong selling and interpersonal skills to get business but I know there are other elements of the business to be good at. My question is to get an understanding of all of the things an independant agent does in their day-to-day. Obviously there is making contacts and selling/writing policies...what else? Yes, customer service/care to keep retention up. What about policy holder payments? If a policy holder doesn't pay or is slow pay do the agencies usually have a department for that? Also, when a claim occurs on a policy, how much does the agent producer get involved, how much of my time should I expect to spend on claims? I expect to do some customer contact and care to help my clients with their claims but as far as handling the claim and payment on the incident should I expect that the agencies will also walk the policy holder through that as well?
