My firm is creating a unique marketing tool for independent insurance agencies. Would it be better to contact the agencies themselves or the companies? We'd also like to have a small group of brokers as a focus group. Where would be a good place to identify them?

The marketing tool is specific to identifying qualified small business owners. Product is something already identified as something that small business owners want. The agency will be able to provide it for free.

More important than the tool is the marketing support services offered to help them promote the offer directly to the small business owner. As well as step-by-step directions on how to use the tool and support material to qualified generate leads and referrals.

I'd say use a list broker and contact all agency owners in your target market. They'll quickly let you know how warmly your system will be received.

I guess it's better to contact the agencies - after all the product is aimed at them.

You may look for brokers online. Go through different websites and try to identify brokers who operate over the same region as yours.

I would contact the state Independant Agency Association, PIA, IIAI, Big I etc... And get nsome support going at that level. They can also provide a list of their members and even hopefully access to a focus group of agents to evaluate the demand for the program.
