I am currently working on getting my California fire & casualty license. But I will be moving to Maryland in September. Been an insurance agent in California and moving to Maryland do I need to take there state classes and exam or can I just use my California license?
If I have to take exams for a Maryland license what happens with my California license?

Most states have gone to the Producer Licensing Model Act (PLMA) which allows state-to-state transfer without having to re-take the licensing exam. I think California has adopted the PLMA.
Check with the California Insurance Division, their website should have ample info.

Hi Teacher, don't both the states have to adopt the PLMA system in order to allow the agents to move their licenses from one state to another without re-taking the licensing exam?

Hi Teacher..
I'm sure there could be some differences in the insurance laws between states. How do they testify whether the agent is actually aware of the norms in the state where he has shifted to? Do they need to sit for any other exam?

I believe that 47 or 48 states have signed on to the PLMA. And yes, each state must have signed on in order for the license transfer to work.
As far as the laws and rules go, most (not all by any means) of the rules within the states are the same or similar to other states. This is something that the various insurance commissioners don't seem to be that worried about under PLMA.
I'm not sure that the license transfer aspect of PLMA is a good thing...time will tell on this.
