Has anyone ever been to a recruitment seminar for a major insurer?
I would like to hear your experiences. I work for a large insurance company and they are evaluating their agent recruitment strategy. This is in light of a high turnout on the welcoming event but very few agents signing up.
As many of you know the number of agents in the US is depleting (especially those agents who sell mostly from 1 insurer). I'm sure many of you are now independent agents and view your first captive job as an initiation of the sort. Many major insurers (Including the one I work for) hire agents with no previous insurance experience. They hire in groups and have similar recruitment seminars where experienced agents and maybe even the CEO talk of the benefits of working for the company etc...
I assume many of you that have been to these events have an oppinion. Too much formality and not enough practicality perhaps?
I am in a position to make some changes to these events but I need your valuable feedback to do so...

Yes..that's quite true but while hiring none of them would share the obstacles with the fresh recruits. Agents would gradually come to know of the difficulties of working a particular organization.

This is certainly a good ploy!
So, you want agents to share their experiences (including grievances) so that you may earn a database of facts..am I right?

I had once been a similar recruitment seminar of one of the big MLM Company. There were good lot of people gathered to participate in it but what I understood after talking to them is that most of them hadn’t had any idea about the whole event. And, quite obviously the crowd thinned even before the seminar was over.
There too were many people who stated about their experiences with the company and tried to suggest how successful they are with it. But the pictures were too rosy to be believed. I think that is the reason why many people hadn’t stayed back after the speeches.

There are many companies that do hire large numbers of inexperienced agents, and whether anybody has sat through a seminar or not...you can imagine how it works. The fact of the matter is that it takes a special type of person to sell insurance, and the infusion of individuals that should have been weeded out are giving the career a bad name.
Everybody has to start somewhere, but an agent recruiting seminar does very little to interview the applicants. In fact, many such seminars hire anyone that will accept the job. You're giving all of the reputable agents and agencies a bad name.
