Social networking has widely been used by sales reps in today's world. Will it be of any help for a new independent agent?

Just think of the number of new visitors to such networks. Once you'd know the yearly volume of users to such networks you won't have a chance to regret.

It enables you to stretch beyond your normal working hours. Your productivity increases quite naturally as you're able to approach more of your prospects. It becomes a 24/7 marketing time for you.

If you're in a business you'd certainly need to choose a network that suits your prospects. Similarly, someone aiming at business communities would prefer to visit blog social networks.

See, social networking is all about knowing people through their knowledge and experiences that they'd share in an open platform. It gives you the opportunity to warm up. Some of these friends might naturally turn out to be your 'prospects' in the course of time.

Twitter is used by 9 out of the 10 top non-life insurance companies. With insurance being a non tangible product, Social Media and the Insurance Industry go hand-in-hand. More on this can be found on my blog - http://www.insurancegeek.net/2010/12/social-media-and-the-insurance-industry/
