My mother-in-law was put into a care center in December of 2008. She was married to a crook to say the least. Not to go on about how this man she married has taken her for everything she ever had, he hasn't paid any money to the care center so there is a $30,000 debt right now and to find out now that he has passed away that he changed the Beneficiary to his two life insurance policies in April of this year so that the monies are going to go to his youngest daughter of a second marriage. My mother-in-law took out the policies when they married and she has paid all the premiums for the past ten years they were married. She now has nothing but debt from this man. Is there anything we as her family can do to get monies from the policies to help pay her past due account at the care center?

Does it mean that this gentleman had paid for his premiums ever since he got divorced?
I doubt he could have changed the 'beneficiary' without consulting your mother-in-law had she been the owner of his policies. However, if she's been paying as the owner, then you'd need to check with the agent or the carrier records.

You are saying HE changed the 'Beneficiaries' on a Life Insurance policy, that was HERS? How can anyone do that without the 'owner's' permission (just talking out loud here)?

NeedHelp, come back because this could be interesting. It's really difficult to follow your post.
Who was/is the owner of the policy?
Has the death benefit been paid?
Were they married when he died?

Not known..still can't it be that he was the owner and she was paying the premiums?
Has the death benefit been paid?
Seemed it was about to get paid to the daughter from his second marriage.
Were they married when he died?
No, I don't think they were married at that time.
