I am planning to go for Long Term Care Insurance before purchasing policy I was reading few articles on it. But I am not able to understand the term “Elimination Period”. Could anyone please explain what is Elimination Period?

Juliet,
Elimination period is nothing more than the days that one needs to wait until they can start receiving benefits. The confusion is arising for two reasons. 1) Max is posting incorrect information. 2) Different contracts count this differently.
Some companies count this as "days of service". A day of service is one in which the insured pays to have help. Therefore, although the insured needs help every day, only the days in which they must pay for service count. Here's an example that may help to make this clear.
Ex. Juliet meets the definition of "chronically ill". Her husband is the primary caregiver. On Tuesday and Thursdays, he hires an outside aid to come in for a few hours. At the end of the week if a "days of service" defintion is used, Juliet has only used 2 days of her elimination period. If a "1 in 7" definition is used, at the end of the week, she would get credit for using 7 days of her elimination period. Any WEEK in which one day of service is paid will count as 7 days. Paying someone twice in a week doesn't give you 14 days. One still can't get more than 7 days in a week.

What I said was in my the 'POSITION' I hold, EVERYTHING is considered HIPAA, reguarding my 'Clients'. That's how it is with 'our' agency. I didn't write the rules,..THEY did. For Example: I had a 'Clients' relative call me about her Life Insurance. I can't tell her that information....I am sworn to the HIPAA rules. Understand? Hope so.
I understand completely that you have confidentiality rules. What I'm trying to explain is that these rules have nothing to do with HIPAA. HIPAA ONLY covers medical information. Like you, if a relative called me about a life insurance policy, I could not tell them anything, but this isn't because of HIPAA. If your agency is saying that you can't give out information about bank accounts/life insurance etc. and are saying it's BECAUSE of HIPAA, they are incorrect. They can't give out the information, but the reasoning has nothing to do with HIPAA. That's why I'm suggesting that you Google HIPAA. If you read about it, you will learn for yourself that it only covers medical information.

Hi, I'm Holden and I am an advocate of AllState Insurance. The Elimination period is the time that the insurance company basically waits out your current condition and does not cover cost. SO if you have a 90 day elimination period it is 90 days that the insurance company does not pay for your medical bills. It is explained pretty well on the (link removed by moderator per Terms of Use- InsTeacher) web-site. I hope that helps.

The company, I work for, has been around for MANY years. And...all of a sudden, their wrong?! Ok...I'll tell them you said so. Thanks. If you would like to see one of their manuals, CONCERNING HIPAA (with our 'Clients') I'd be more than happy to send one to you.Posted: Sat Dec 19, 2009 02:31 pm Post Subject:
If you understood HIPAA, you would realize that you are talking complete nonsense.
If you could be bothered to look it up, you would see that it only pertains to medical information. I suspect that you aren't willing to do this because you'd rather be wrong and think that you're right as opposed to learning the truth. You should be getting used to the pattern here. When someone on this board tells you that you are wrong and you believe that you are correct, it always ends up that you are wrong.

You can call CRI-Community Resources of Independence. They are located in Erie, Pennsylvainia. THERE you will get the information you need, reguarding the HIPAA policies, from 'our' office.

It's irrelevant what they tell me. If they tell me that they can't tell me about someone's bank account information, but it has nothing to do with HIPAA, they are correct and you are wrong. If they tell me that they can't tell me about someone's bank account information because of HIPAA, they are wrong and you are wrong.
In either case, you are wrong.
Look up HIPAA instead of willfully choosing to be ignorant on the subject.

I gave you the 'tool' to use to find out, about HIPAA, yourself. It is YOUR choice to use that 'tool' or not.

There is no cure for being willfully stupid. It should tell you something that nobody on here is agreeing with you.
