Have you tried contacting the company? They do not appear to have a website, nor are they reported by AM Best Co or Standard & Poor's -- which is a clue.
A simple Google search reveals the following:
Name: National Home Life Assurance Company
Street:
Valley Forge, pa 19481-
Phone: (610) 648-5000
National Home Life Assurance Co
237 E High St
Jefferson City, MO 65101
573-636-9332
National Home Life Assurance Co Of New York - (800) 523-7900
Valley Forge Road, Valley Forge, PA 19481
Take your pick.
There is no record of that company ever being admitted to transact insurance in California on the CA Dept of Insurance website, let alone having been based in Lone Pine (which is not a business mecca of any kind in California, it is in the shadow of Mammoth Mountain, about 350 miles northeast of Los Angeles).
Despite a Google search that also lists them as being a Missouri insurance company, they are not found in the MO Dept of Insurance database either.
Visit the NAIC website for more information:

Start out by calling one of the phone numbers found, if they give you the run around, you should reach out to the California department of insurance.
As Max has hinted, this doesn't look good, but this is the track to get started on.

I think you should try and contact the agent to find out what you are seeking. You can even try the website of medical information bureau to find out the information regarding her insurance.

Our Father who is now deceased had a policy from National Home Life Assurance company from Valley Forge, PA.. The policy was issued in southern CA in 1985, through being a Citibank VIsa cardmember in good standing as a copy he had. From this site I have at least two phone numbers I will try calling. Will let you know of outcome. Thank you
