Calling on people yourself. Online leads are tough to work and will burn a hole in your pocket.

Call on businesses from the yellow pages, or I have heard of a DEX list, what is the best? Or should I walk in on businesses, or door to door residential??

Yes, yes, and yes. If you ask people to buy, you will be successful. It can be referrals. It can be personal contacts. It can be cold calls. It can be cold walks on businesses. It can be cold walks of residences.

Just don't do the asking over the phone. You've got to do it face-to-face. Especially with life insurance. Way to personal a product to do any way other than in person in most cases. (If all you're doing is final expense, well, that's not the kind of life insurance that will get you to the MDRT.)

To clarify, the cold calling that I'm talking about is asking for an appointment and not asking for a sale.

Well, the sale is still essentially a cold call if you don't know a thing about the individual to begin with.

It is a cold call, but I'll certainly know plenty about the individual before the sale is made.

Terrific. Sounds like you understand the proper way to write business.
