My Father passed away two weeks ago leaving his estate to his six children. My Mother and Father were married at the time of his death but had been separated for two years previously with my mother moving out of the home they shared as Tennants In Common. My Mum is my Dad's next of kin.
Dad had two Whole of Life insurance policies - one for himself and one for our Mother which he solely paid into. We have never had a good relationship with our Mum but now she is refusing to pay out anything for my Father's funeral costs. (Totaling just over £10,000) We (his six children) have paid the funeral costs but is there any way we can dispute the payout to her or get her to pay towards some of the costs as Dad's next of kin?
Thanks in advance
Lisa

Once the insured has died, no changes to the policy or beneficiary are possible. Money paid to a named beneficiary is their money and they are entitled to do with it as they please. If you are in the UK, the laws on this are probably the same as here in the US.
