One of my uncles, who was very fond of me told that he had a life insurance policy of which I am the sole beneficiary. That was 14 years ago. Now he has recently passed away. How would ever find out about the life insurance policy? Please advice on how may I locate and get proceeds, if there really is a policy?

Hi,
You can collect financial records from banks and credit card companies to know how your uncle used to pay the policy premiums. This can give you the idea regarding the policy. You should also check safe deposit of your uncle to find out any relevant documents. After you get hold of any such documents, you can consult a financial advisor to know how you can claim the policy proceeds.

You may also check the mail box and old mails that may have any documents or notifications from a life insurance company.
Another way is to contact the HR department of your uncle's previous employer to find out if the policy was taken out under a group life insurance plan.
Contacting MIB (Medical Information Bureau) can be a help as it keeps data of life insurance applicants in the past 12 years.
There are companies that provide policy locator service for a fee. These may also prove helpful.
