Can anyone please tell me how do you collect on a life insurance policy?

Normally if you (the beneficiary) have the policy, you just need to get a contact the company and inform about the insured's death. they should be sending you a form, which you'd need to fill out and submit along with copy of the death certificate and other documents needed by the company.
The contact information of the company should be right on the policy. Any decent company will honor the policy and make payments from within a few days to a few weeks if there's no discrepancies.

Even the indecent insurance companies pay claims.

You need the policy number and a CERTIFIED copy of the death certificate (or its equivalent). No other documentation is normally required, although some insurance companies will ask for the policy to also be returned (to avoid becoming involved in later claims) -- but if it's not available, they won't withhold the payment.

The insured has to die first. Then you must submit a claim form along with a certified death certificate.

Few people would misunderstand this. But some try to do it anyway . . . except they are trying to collect on false claims.

You would be surprised how many people misunderstand this!
In general, people do not understand the different types of insurance. They don't understand many things leading them to make accusations that simply are not true.
