I was told to research this subject to see if I am able to report it to the insurance company. My mother passed away with cancer May 2007. She left $25,000 life insurance money for me and each of my two siblings. Prior to her passing, she co-signed for my daughter (her oldest granddaughter) for a $16,000 school 3rd semester loan. I co-signed for the 1st and 2nd semester. Prior to her death, she left her home and moved in with me and my daughter so we could properly take care of her. My sister was jealous and my father was upset that she didn't want to stay home anymore. She got tired of them telling her what to do and expecting her to cook, clean and babysit after taking chemo and radiation. In short, my mother passed away and my father received the life insurance money for me and my brother (younger) and sister (older). She left each of us $25,000. My father gave my sister her $25,000 but did not give my brother or me our full amount. He only gave my $9,000 and stated that he was going to take the $16,000 and pay off the loan that my mother co-signed for my daughter. My family (aunts and uncles) were furious. The loan was co-signed for my daughter (her oldest granddaughter) not me, but he took $16,000 out of the money that was left for me. Do I have a case? Can I have charges bought against my father?

How do you know this?
Who was the beneficiary of the life insurance policy, You and your siblings or your father? That would be the person(s) the insurance money was payable to, and once they have it, it is their money to do with as they please.
Apparently, your father was the beneficiary. If you are unhappy with his choice, that's OK, but you cannot do anything about it.
